On Saturday 21 April, over 600 jobseekers connected with top employers at CPA Australia’s Career Expo. The annual event had 26 exhibitors, including accounting firms, banks, shared services and other multinational organisations.

Delegates included final-year accounting, finance and business undergraduates, as well as accounting and finance professionals who wanted to meet potential employers at the expo. They were able to get a feel of the different work cultures within the organisations and submit their resumes to exhibitors.

In his opening remarks, Malaysian Divisional Council member, Alex Ooi FCPA, said that with bilingual skills and international experience are two important hiring factors for employers. Having a respected international professional qualification, such as the CPA Australia designation, is also an advantage.

Priya Terumalay, General Manager – Malaysia, CPA Australia, says the annual event supports engagement with universities and new career entrants by bridging the gap between study and finding a meaningful career and by helping employers to meet talent from universities.

The event was packed with panel discussions and talks from industry experts. Discussions included “The 2012 Accountant – how accountants have evolved over time”, where panellists comprising of representatives of accounting firms shared their views on sought-after key attributes of a potential employee, their own work experiences and useful tips for fresh graduates. The second discussion comprised of panellists from shared services organisations who discussed “What’s the demand for graduates in Shared Services”.

The event held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and was supported by Multimedia Development Corporation, and Graduan was the official Career Expo Partner.
